Hotel Babysitting Options When You’re on Holiday

Hotel babysitting options

Holidays take on a whole new meaning when you’re going with babies or children in tow. Long leisurely lie-ins after late nights aren’t so pleasurable, or even possible.

Children have totally different expectations of holiday times to their parents. However, if you’re in need of a break from the humdrum of life, and perhaps an opportunity to reconnect with your partner, you need to factor in some adult time too.

Yet, hotel babysitting and childcare away from home can feel tricky to organise. What are your options when holidaying in the UK?

1. Use the hotel babysitting service at your hotel

Not all hotels offer a babysitting service, or an outside babysitting provider affiliated with the hotel. However, some larger hotels do offer hotel babysitting. This comes with the advantage that you know the babysitter is local and used to working in your hotel.

However, you don’t know what standards of childcare are upheld. Is the hotel babysitter vetted? Do they have professional childcare experience? This is before knowing how to negotiate rates in an area away from home.

2. Take family

Many families choose to combine their nuclear unit with the wider family, such as grandparents, aunts and uncles, on a family trip. One of the benefits of this is that they can be used for babysitting perhaps once or twice during your trip.

However, this can be tricky when it comes to laying boundaries, ensuring family doesn’t feel put upon, and being able to spend adult time with your family too.

3. Choose a hotel with a Kids’ Club

If you know in advance of booking that having some childfree time is important to you on your holiday then you can choose a hotel with a kids’ club.

This comes with the advantage that they usually offer childcare during the day as well, rather than just evenings. They are also set up exclusively for children’s fun.

However, there are a number of drawbacks when using a kids’ club. You’ll likely find that different age children are catered for in different groups. This can be tricky if siblings are separated. They may also not offer a crèche for infants.

Furthermore, you need to check if you are happy with the staffing ratios. Hours of opening may also prevent you having an evening out using this childcare too.

4. Employ a holiday nanny

There are nanny agencies which have nannies on their books who specifically work holidays only on a temporary basis.

This means you have an extra pair of hands available to help who are dedicated to your children.

You can vet them and choose someone DBS checked. They may even deal with all the night waking to ensure you really come back rested and refreshed.

The drawbacks? This is an expensive option. You’ll need to pay for their transport, accommodation and board and negotiate hours. This is independent from their wages.

You’ll also need to consider if you want an extra person on your family holiday.

5. Choose hotel babysitting with Sitters
